Charleston Custom House Bird House
Give birds a chance to settle into your backyard using the Home Bazaar Charleston Custom House Bird House. This spacious, wooden home mimics the Greek Revival architecture of the real-world US Custom House in Charleston, SC, from its painted off-white finish and building name across its front, to its six columns and arrangement of windows and door. A 1.25″ diameter bird entrance sits within the front gable of the home, protected by the roof overhang above, while a 8.25″ x 5.5″ panel on the back is removable for routine cleanings. The interior of this generous home contains two holes in its base for adequate drainage of any accumulating moisture, as well as gaps between the sidewalls and the roof for ventilation, making a comfortable nesting spot. A mesh ladder also adorns the interior, ascending the interior of the front wall and creating easy access for birds to the entrance from the inside. Opposite the painted black, wood shingles decorating the roof is a 10.25″ x 7.25″ base on which the home sits, ideal for mounting atop a post with an appropriate mounting plate (not included), while the back of the house has affixed to it a swiveling, dog-eared plank for mounting the structure to a wall or side of a post. Hang a decorative taste of historical Charleston charm in your yard with this Charleston Custom House Bird House.
Note: Climate and the elements will weather this house and change its appearance over time; however, weathering will add to the home’s natural charm without compromising its function. Should you wish to preserve the finish (paint) on this home, you should select a polyurethane product that is recommended for marine use (UV rated) that will not discolor the paint. You should expect that once left outdoors, the product will weather and require refinishing.
